" SPITI IS A WORLD WITHIN A WORLD " - RUDYARD KIPLING
Well, we couldn't agree more. We take you on an AWESOME road trip through Lahaul and Spiti in Upper Himachal. These mountains are untouched and waiting for us to explore them, and what better way to do it than conquer it on foot? So we intersperse our road trip with a good dose of trekking and camping at scenic locations. Add to this the local, rustic cultural flavour of offbeat homestays, meeting like minded people and experiencing the wonderful Spitian hospitality and you just got yourself the journey of a lifetime.
We meet at Manali this morning and check into our comfy accommodation. After some much needed rest and breakfast, we head out to explore Manali. In the night, we head out to the music cafe's together and enjoy some chill times in the hills.
Today we start super early in the morning and head to Kaza, the main town of Spiti. The journey is longish (about 8 -10 hours) and goes through rough terrain. We will also cross over the magnificent Kunzum La, one of India's highest motorable Himalayan Passes. Our aim is to reach Kaza before sunset to catch the setting sun over the magnificent landscape. We will be staying at a beautiful, experience rich hotel this night. Say hello to luxury!
We take you to a secret hideout above Kaza, the Key Monastery (Spiti's biggest Monastic school) and the sleepy river before heading to Tabo for its exquisite monastery and its apple orchards and finally, we reach Dhankar to catch magnificent sunset.
Early today we hike to the Dhankar Lake, a high altitude glacial body. We would have carried our breakfasts and tea to the lake and its a little picnic that we have here.Later, we head to langza to visit the popular Buddha statue and then Hikkim to check out the world’s highest post office. Our sunset is at Komic, from the roof of our heritage homestay.
This morning we hike up to the Komic Sakya Monastery. Post breakfast, our journey to Chandrataal begins. We will be passing a town called Kibber (best known for the Himalayan Ibex) and the highest suspension bridge in the world at Chicham, so keep your cameras ready. Our journey to Chandrataal is long and full of adventure, again passing through the magnificent Kunzum Pass. Once we reach our campsite in Chandrataal, we head out to the lake to witness the sunset here (if time permits).
This morning, we head back to the lake for a sunrise special. We come back for breakfast and then head out to Manali.
